Meet the Animal
The harpy eagle is the most powerful bird of prey on Earth, with talons larger than a grizzly bear's claws! These magnificent eagles hunt through the dense Amazon rainforest, snatching sloths and monkeys right out of the treetops. They are so powerful they are named after the Harpies - the winged spirits of ancient Greek mythology.

Appearance
White chest, pale grey head with a distinctive feathered crest. Black back and wings. Enormous grey-black banded talons up to 13 cm long. Largest and most powerful eagle in the Americas.

One egg laid every 2 years. Both parents care for the eaglet for up to 2 years. Parents hunt to provide for the growing eaglet.
